Bowls: Twin target for Bainfield

Bainfield are hoping to buck the nationwide trend of postponement due to adverse weather conditions by staging their indoor bowls premier league match against West Lothian at the Hutchison Crossway stadium tomorrow.

"At the moment, it is all systems go with our opponents travelling from an area in close proximity to us and they haven't been in touch to suggest they have a problem," said team manager John Bell.

The match is a relegation zone battle for both teams.

"We are running out of chances to keep the escape hatch open so with home advantage must take this one and believe that we can do so if building on the level of form we showed against league leaders East Lothian, ventured an optimistic Bell.

The atrocious weather has knocked out other fixtures involving Edinburgh and Lothian teams including Midlothian versus Aberdeen at Dalkeith and Auchinleck against East Lothian at the Ayrshire venue in the premier league.

Portobello won't be attempting to cross the Forth Road Bridge to take on Dunfermline club Abbeyview in Division 1B and Balbardie's visit to Galashiels to face Tweedbank has also been called off.

The ladies national league cup programme has also been hit by the weather and games called off include Portobello v Teviotdale, West Lothian v Bainfield, and Balbardie v Cumbernauld.
