Bowls: Poole makes a splash for Summerside in Top Ten tilt

David POOLE – the former E&L captain and Pilrig star – produced a major dividend for his new club Summerside by tipping the scales in the EBL Division 3 clubs tiebreak win over Division 1 opponents Northern in last night’s first round of the Edinburgh Top Ten Championship.

The match finished 4-4 and a 53-53 share of the shots made Poole’s 21-13 victory over Gordon Wilson Jnr in the Singles the deciding factor in favour of Summerside.

Poole’s win on the home leg for his club was highlighted by a blitz start to lead 13-2 after nine ends. It was also a crucial contribution that the final end of the Fours saw Neil Nisbet, Jim Currie, Mark Wilson and Peter Miller card a single to level the match aggregate and
beat the Davy Scott-skipped opposition 13-8.

The away leg at Northern saw the partnership of Norrie Chalmers and Martin Watt slip from 8-8 to a 17-11 defeat from Darren Prentice and Jamie Reid while the home side trio of Jim Prentice, Ian MacDonald and Mike Burns beat Kerr McKail, Paul Jeromson and Mark
Robertson 15-8.

Hillside are cock-a-hoop at dealing a 6-2 exit to former champions Sighthill and their inspiration came from Colin Bell who was in sparkling form to score a 21-8 away win over high-profile
opponent Jamie Gracie.

Colin Hairs edged a valuable 14-11 away win over Alan Trotter in the Fours while the home leg for Hillside saw Gary Muir skip Richard Newall to a 23-18 win in the Pairs.
