Bowls: Hogg, Burnett in last eight

FORMER East Lothian star Wayne Hogg, who now lives in Glenrothes, and Arbroath’s Darren Burnett both won through to the quarter-finals of the Fred Olsen Cruise Lines World Indoor Bowls Championships at Potters in Great Yarmouth.

Hogg beat former Scottish international colleague Stewart Anderson 7-6, 6-12, 2-1. Burnett, though, had to battle severe toothache before seeing off Scottish International Open champion Robert Paxton from Exeter 9-7, 0-13, 2-0.

Hogg now faces Welshman Jason Greenslade for a place in tomorrow’s semi-finals while Burnett lines up against Rob Weale.

Sydney-based Karen Murphy won the Women’s World Matchplay Singles crown, beating twice former champion Debbie Stavrou 10-4, 6-7, 2-0.
