Bowls: E&L too strong for Midlothian

Edinburgh & Leith continue to dominate the East section of the Scottish Under-25 bowls League Cup having completed a hat-trick of opening wins by defeating Midlothian 119-103 at Currie.

Wins on three rinks, skipped by Neil Watson, Euan Craig, and Josh Spalding were supported by a peel from Scott Noble while the defeat of Nicky Brown and Dean Thomson were by narrow margins.

Watson skipped Craig McArthur Daniel McCourt and Colin Tough to a 28-17 win over Stuart Wyllie having crossed to 18-10 with a run of 4, 3, 3, 1 then carding a 1, 3, 2, 1 finish from 21-17. Craig notched a 6 at the tenth end to cross 13-10 then went on to skip Jamie McIntosh Donald Forsyth and Gavin Rogers to a 21-16 win over Robert Trench.

Spalding was neck and neck with Daniel McDougall, but tipped the scales with a 3 at the last to skip Kerr McKail Chris Conway and Daniel Gormley to a 22-19 win.

Noble slipped from 12-3 up to 14-12 down and it took a single at the last for him to rescue a 19-19 peel against Scott Ritchie, while Brown slipped from 10-9 up to 16-10 down and lost 17-16 to Scott Runciman.

Thomson was 9-3 up against Jamie Aitken but conceded 4 and 1 and lost 15-13.
