Bowls: Bainfield in a battle at West Lothian

Bainfield bowls club stormed back from 35-33 down to beat West Lothian 62-50 in yesterday’s clash in the East B section of the Seniors Scottish League Cup at Livingston.

West Lothian had won all four of their previous home fixtures but Edinburgh club Bainfield remain second to leaders East Lothian, two points adrift having played one game more.

Wins by the rinks skipped by Mike Marshall, Neil Butters and Bill Little more than compensate for the narrow defeat of Jim Cowan.

Other results saw Portobello register their third win in ten games with a 68-61 home victory over Balbardie while bottom club Teviotdale surprised Midlothian 71-49 at Hawick.

Meanwhile, promotion challengers Balbardie slipped to a costly 77-75 defeat at bottom club Fintry in Division 1D of the indoor bowls league at the weekend. The Bathgate club are now a daunting four points behind leaders Stirling and, to stand any chance of catching the leaders, they will have to win their fast approaching away clash between the teams.
