Bo'ness bounce back to top in Super League title race

BO'NESS UNITED moved back to the top of the East Super League last night despite being held 2-2 by Musselburgh Athletic.

United knew a victory would put them two points clear of rivals Linlithgow Rose, however, they looked a tired and jaded side after playing three games in the space of five days.

Scottish Junior Cup finalists Musselburgh - safe from relegation - used some of their fringe players at Olivebank and Bo'ness took an expected lead with a goal from Nicky Walker, a lead they held to the break.

However, into the second half and an inspired Musselburgh side equalised with another super effort from striker Chris King from distance. Bo'ness were tiring badly but they regained the lead with five minutes to go when Martin Ure scored. However, their hopes of taking all three points were dashed only a couple of minutes later as substitute Kris Renton levelled the game to give Musselburgh a well-earned share of the points.

Bo'ness now lead Linlithgow on goal difference ahead of the teams' crunch clash this Saturday, with Hill of Beath lurking dangerously just a point back in third.

Elsewhere, in the South Division, Sauchie strengthened their hopes of winning the title with a 9-1 demolition of Harthill. They now move into second spot only a point behind leaders Fauldhouse but with two games in hand. Blackburn had a good 2-1 win at Pumpherston.
