Bobsleigh: Cooke has work to do

EDINBURGH'S Gillian Cooke and Sheffield driver Nicola Minichiello finished seventh in the latest bobsleigh World Cup round at St Moritz in Switzerland, writes LORIN McDOUGALL.

That was one place higher than they managed in Germany last week on Minichiello's return from eye surgery, but the world champions were well behind the leaders barely a month before the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Britons clocked one minute 08.01 seconds on their first run but while most of their rivals went quicker on their final attempt, Cooke and Minichiello slowed to 1:08.17, leaving them 1.11sec away from a bronze medal.

They now head for Igls in Austria for this week's combined World Cup and European Championship race.
