Blantyre stay on course to retain Knockout Cup

REIGNING champions Blantyre progressed to the second round of the Robert Horn Jewellers Scottish Knockout Cup with a 105-58 win over Fraserburgh.

Their second-round clash on 2 March will be re-run of last season’s final against West Lothian, who beat Perth 100-62. Turriff, the 2001 champions, lost 90-64 to five-time winners East Lothian. Other past winners Midlothian, Prestwick, Lanarkshire and Bainfield all remain in the hunt for a place in the final at the beginning of April. In the opposite half, 2006 runners-up Stirling are joined in the second round by Arbroath, East Kilbride, Abbeyview, Paisley, Ayr, Dundee and Newton Stewart.

Scotland missed out in both the men’s and women’s Junior Under 25 Home International Series yesterday and had to be content with second place finishes. In the men’s Series at Newport, an 82-62 defeat to winners England cost Scotland the title. At Bromsgrove, the women needed to beat England to win the title but they went down 67-63.
