Binning and Crichton shine at Prestatyn

AMATEUR STROKE-PLAY: Ranfurly Castle’s Sam Binning finished third and Scott Crichton (Aberdour) joint fourth in the the Welsh men’s open amateur stroke-play golf championship over the weekend at Prestatyn Golf Club.

Bimming shot 74, 74, 70 and 71 for a one-over-par total of 289. He finished eight shots behind runaway winner Craig Hinton (The Oxfordshire) who had scores of 69, 75, 70 and 67 for a seven-under-par total of 281. Binnining finished just a shot behind Welsh runner-up Vaughan McCall (Gore).

Crichton had rounds of 70, 76, 72 and 72 for two-over 290 and Colin Thomson (East Renfreshire) came 13th on 297 with scores of 75, 76, 75 and 71.

The challenge of South African open amateur champion Brian Soutar (Leven Golfing Society) fell away with a closing 80 for a total of 298.
