Basketball: Rose earns full GB call-up

ROSE ANDERSON of Edinburgh Kool Kats has been named in a squad of 14 to represent Great Britain in a three-match basketball test series against Bulgaria this weekend.

She is the only Scot in the squad and it will be a first senior honour for University of Central Oklahoma student.

Anderson, younger sister of Commonwealth Games boxing gold medallist Kenny Anderson, was praised by Team GB's Australian coach Tom Maher for fighting her way into the squad.

He said: "She's very competitive and these games will give us the chance to blood new players while also being useful preparation for the Eurobasket Qualifying campaign."

Three Edinburgh Kings, Paddy Campbell, Laurie Costello and Garreth Lodge, have been named in the Scotland men's team who play England twice in Worcester this weekend in their final warm-up games before the European C Championship in Malta beginning on 5 July.

Grant Gibson of East Lothian Peregrines is also in the squad.

Kings' Simon Flockhart is unavailable.

Capital coach Doug Reilly and his Scotland junior men face Ireland at Musselburgh Sports Centre tonight in the first of three matches in preparation for the European B Championships in Tel Aviv next month.
