Basketball: Kings still short handed but tipped to beat Troon

Edinburgh Kings' Magnificent Seven hope to brave the weather and head for Ayr tonight to face Troon Tornadoes at the Citadel Centre.

Having topped the ton in their last two games with only seven players on the bench, Kings would have upped their line-up to eight tonight with the return of Latvian forward Edgars Rekis. But starting point guard Garreth Lodge is unavailable, leaving Rekis, Si Flockhart, brothers Lee and Craig Reilly, Paddy Campbell, Michael Kirkpatrick and Lee "Chopper" Pettett to try to maintain their winning momentum.

The last time Rekis played he enjoyed a career high 46-point points romp, thanks to some magnificent service from the Kings guards, and Craig Reilly could be crucial in that role after giving a remarkable nine assists in the 114-47 win over Glasgow Storm at Portobello last Saturday. Si Flockhart amassed 26 points in that game and, with Troon struggling, Kings have a great chance.

One reason for Kings' short bench is that the City club are also running a team in the Scottish Chairman's Cup and National League players are ineligible for the latter in which, weather permitting, Kings play Tayside Revolution at Portobello tomorrow (3.00pm).

Kings are also due to meet Glasgow Rens in cadet (11.00am) and junior (1.00pm) men's games beforehand while, on Sunday, Polonia Phoenix host Edinburgh Kool Kats in a vital Scottish senior women's game at Wester Hailes (2.30pm).
