Basketball: Kings end 2010 schedule on top but Costello unhappy

Edinburgh KINGS braved the snow to chalk up their 11th Scottish basketball league win in a row in defeating their one-time closest rivals Troon Tornadoes 83-46 at Ayr's Citadel Centre.

Unbeaten since last season's Scottish Cup final defeat by Falkirk Fury, Kings end their 2010 schedule two wins clear of Fury and St Mirren.

But the Capital side have no cause for complacency for they face Fury away at the Mariner Centre on January 14 in their first fixture of 2011 and are due to play St Mirren twice in successive games at the end of the season which could yet go down to the wire at Portobello on March 5. Because of that, Kings' perfectionist coach Danny Costello was far from happy with his team's display at Ayr where they took the first quarter 22-12, led 44-28 at half-time and managed to edge the third only 12-8. "We didn't run our offences as we have in our last two games and struggled to finish, missing an incredible number of lay-ups and inside shots," said Costello.

Edgars Rekis with 19, Michael Kirkpatrick with 18, Craig Reilly 13 and Si Flockhart with 10 were the players in double figures.

The weather wiped out all yesterday's games including Polonia v Kool Kats senior women.
