Basketball: Five Scots win places for GB basketball's summer sorties

Portobello's Rose Anderson is one of five Scots named in Great Britain basketball teams for major tournaments this summer.

Former Edinburgh Kool Kat Anderson been confirmed in the final team to contest the women's Eurobasket Championships in Poland beginning on Saturday and, along with Capital clubmate Becca Allison and Falkirk's Mairi Buchan, included in the GB team for the World University Games in Shenzhen, China from August 11 to 23.

Kieron Achara, who is based in Italy, and Robert Archibald, who is still with Malaga, are in the Standard Life Team GB for Eurobasket men in Lithuania beginning on August 31.

The GB women, who like the men have now had their London Olympics 2012 place confirmed, open their Eurobasket campaign in Poland against Belarus on Saturday, play Czech Republic on Sunday and Israel on Monday after a tough warm-up series of games, most of which they have lost.

Mairi Buchan was ruled out of Poland as she had not recovered sufficiently from an ankle operation but joins in the team for China where they have drawn the USA in their group.

The GB men have again drawn a daunting group in Eurobasket, facing hosts Lithuania on the opening day, then World Championship runners-up Turkey and then former World champions Spain, whom they nearly beat in the 2009 event.
