Basketball: Edinburgh Kings face Falkirk Fury's new US shooting star

FALKIRK FURY have signed 6ft 4in American shooting guard Erik Olson in a surprise move to try and stop Edinburgh Kings marching away with another Scottish basketball title.

Olson, a three-point specialist who played for Linfield, a division three US college outfit, will go straight into the side for tomorrow's top-of-the table battle at Portobello High School (1pm) which is a must-win game for both teams.

But, if anything, there is more pressure on Falkirk, who have already lost twice to Kings and are on three defeats in all to the Capital men's two.

Kings will certainly be tested to the limit by a visiting side likely to start with two more three-point shooters, the brothers Keith and Jonny Bunyan, and two of the biggest men in the country, 6ft 10in Scottish senior cap Roni Gordon and 6ft 8in Scottish junior ace Ali Fraser.

"This game is certainly huge for us as victory would mean that we could afford to lose two other games in the run-in and still retain our title," said Kings coach Danny Costello.

Kings welcome back Commonwealth Games cap Campbell Flockhart after a long break and fellow Scottish caps Paddy Campbell, Garreth Lodge and Simon Flockhart have all recovered from injury and should be fit to play.

With Lodge, Laurie Costello and Michael Kirkpatrick in the back court, Kings should have the edge.
