Back in the saddle: Turner’s return

HAYLEY Turner was simply pleased to be riding at Kempton yesterday – even if she did not exactly have the most inspiring of comebacks.

The most accomplished British female Flat rider had been sidelined for just under four months with a broken ankle, but recently returned to the headlines by picking up a clutch of awards for her achievements in winning her first two Group 1 races during 2011. Turner’s first two rides passed without incident as she finished in mid-division, before Lucky Art had to be withdrawn from division two of the five-furlong handicap.

Speaking after her second ride, Turner said: “It’s good to be back and I just need to work harder to get a bit stronger.

“I’ll keep ticking over for the next few weeks – I have been off for four months and I don’t want to take the mick.”
