Ayr 17 - 24 Dundee HSFP

DUNDEE took advantage of a disjointed and lethargic home side's problems to score an excellent victory in this Premier 1, Section A game at Millbrae.

The visitors were hungrier from the start and deservedly went ahead when Danny Levison ran in fellow flanker Chris Cummings' off-load for the opener, converted by Jamie Urquhart in ten minutes. But, from Ayr's long re-start, the visitors made a hash of things in their own in-goal area and Stephen Adair pounced for Ayr's opening try.

Still in the first quarter, James Fleming outstripped the cover for Dundee's second try, Urquhart converted and added a penalty to make it 5-17 at half time. After a roasting from coach Kenny Murray, Ayr showed more vim and vigour in the third quarter, but failed to make pressure pay in the face of some resolute defence from Dundee.

On the hour, great work by Rick McKenna, chipping over the Ayr defence then collecting his own kick, sent Fleming in for another converted try for the visitors.

Then Ayr woke up. Robbie Colhoun and Frazier Climo scored uncoverted tries, the latter's a real breakaway effort. Time ran out on Ayr, who got exactly what their wayward display deserved. Nothing. But, well done Dundee. They wanted the win more and it showed.
