Away-day joy for Glen

GLEN, last season's Division 2 champions, moved into top spot in the East Lothian Winter League after recording the only away win in the latest round of matches.

It came at defending champions Gullane, who were displaced as the Division 1 leaders as they lost 3-2 in a battle between two previously unbeaten teams.

All five ties were still alive on the 17th and, in the end, the visitors sealed the win when Thomson and Taylor beat the experienced home pairing of Jack and Corrie in match No.?4.

Dunbar kick-started their season with a clean sweep at home against Royal Musselburgh. These two teams have an established pedigree with 22 league titles between them, but neither showed the consistency to mount a serious challenge last term.

Dunbar will be looking for more of the same when Longniddry come to visit next weekend, whilst Royal play host to leaders Glen.

In Division 2, Tantallon signalled their intent as they handed out a 5-0 thrashing to lowly Castle Park and, in so doing, moved to the top of the table.

Neighbours North Berwick needed a win at Thorntree to join them at the top, but it wasn't to be with that match finishing in a 2…-2… tie.

Something has to give next Sunday when Tantallon host North Berwick over the West Links.
