Auld Enemy set for clash at St Andrews

THE success of an Auld Enemy event prior to this year’s Calcutta Cup clash has encouraged organisers to set up another one – this time on the golf course.

The Glengoyne Auld Enemy Diamond Jubilee Golf Day is being held at Fairmont St Andrews on 24 August, when both club and corporate golfers are being given the chance to play in a Scotland versus England match over the Torrance Course.

It follows the success of the Glengoyne Auld Enemy Dinner, a star-studded affair which was staged in Edinburgh on the eve of this year’s Calcutta Cup clash to support Help for Heroes and the Bill McLaren Foundation.

The golf event, which will also support Help for Heroes, will involve 80 players, with former Scotland rugby full-back Gavin Hastings having already confirmed he will be in the home team. “The Glengoyne Auld Enemy Diamond Jubilee Golf Day is a great idea,” he said. “It will generate good-natured rivalry and that’s what it is all about.”

The cost of a fourball is £900 and includes a place at the gala dinner, which will be hosted by BBC sports commentator Andrew Cotter. For full details visit www.1879eventsltd.com or email [email protected]
