Jack Lawrie wins Eric Liddell Memorial Trophy

Pitreavie’s Jack Lawrie, a pupil at Beath High who is advised by Eilidh Child’s former coach Norman Gardiner, was a worthy winner of the Eric Liddell Memorial Trophy for the best boys’ performance at the Scottish Schools Championships at Grangemouth Stadium.

Lawrie clocked 53.71 seconds for the senior 400 metres hurdles to chop 1.55sec off the previous record and also won the 110m hurdles in 15.16 into a headwind.

It must have been a close decision for Ciaran Wright (St Mungo’s Falkirk) added nearly six metres to the Boys Under-17 hammer record with a massive throw of 65.88m and also won the shot (14.85m).

Ben Robbins (Geo Watson’s), winner of the 400 metres the previous evening, won the Under-17 200m in 22.45sec.

Angus Sinclair (Merchiston) took the senior high jump with a leap of 1.95m. Another Pitreavie athlete Anna Gordon was the top performer in the girls events, clearing 3.61m.
