Athletics: Sharp back into her normal routine after Olympic pain

Lynsey SHARP, bidding to shake off the gloom after her disappointing exit from the
Olympic 800 metres semi-final in London last Thursday, was back into her training regime at the weekend with a morning run the day after the race.

The 22-year-old Edinburgh AC star is keen to take advantage of the fitness she has built up and is running the 800m in the Aviva Gand Prix at Birmingham’s Alexander
Stadium a week on Sunday.

“She is very resilient,” said her mother Carol, herself a former Scottish 800m champion and internationalist.

“She was keen to blow out the cobwebs – her new target is to break two minutes.”

Pitreavie’s Eilidh Child did not get a run in the final of the 4x400m relay on Saturday night after running the third leg in the GB team who qualified for the final.

Shana Cox remained on the first leg and Child dropped out to make way for her
English 400m hurdles rival Perri Shakes-Drayton.

But despite a strong leg in 50.5 seconds from Shakes-Drayton and Lee McConnell running
another solid second leg
in around 51sec, individual
silver medallist Christine
Ohuruogu was left isolated on the last leg and they could only finish fifth.
