Athletics: Ross third at Silverknowes

Ross HOUSTON (Central) warmed up for the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday week finishing third in the first-ever Scottish 5k road race championship held on the foreshore at Silverknowes last night.

The winner of the Edinburgh to North Berwick 20 miles road race last Saturday, Houston, 31, was just outkicked on the run-in by Chris Mackay (Inverclyde) and Twelde Mengisteab (Shettleston). Mackay, 14 minutes 35 seconds, was three seconds clear of the Eritrean exile, with Houston one second behind.

Laura Dunn (Edinburgh AC), a track 1500 metres runner, was second in the women's race in 16:47 behind Emma Raven (Central), 16:42, and Hester Dix (Fife) third in 16:59.
