Athletics: Cunningham shows he's one for the future with superb performance

The talk of the youths events at Musselburgh was the astonishing performance of an 11-year-old Stockbridge Primary 7 pupil Kingsley Cunningham who, off an extremely generous 18.5 metres start, won the Pat Mulgrew Youths 90m handicap by at least 10m, his arms aloft long before the line in premature celebration.

Kingsley, who is member of an Edinburgh AC group coached by David Goodall, later had his handicap docked 7.5m for the youths 10-12 yr-old 60m but still managed to reach the final and clearly has a great future in whatever sport he chooses.

The winner in 7.07 seconds from a 13.75m start was Jacob Lineen (Stewart's Melville), younger son of rugby legend Sean, whose elder son Cameron was seventh in the 13-15 final.

Second in the 10-12 race was Natalie Robbins (Edinburgh), whose brother Ben was second in the 13-15 final, and third was Philippa Robertson (Hawick), who is the granddaughter of Doug Jackson, the Scotland rugby wing.
