Athletics: City's Frost in GB team for hammer

Capital hammer-thrower Andy Frost has been named for the sole spot in the Great Britain team for the European Team Championships (formerly the European Cup) to be held in Stockholm on June 18 and 19.

It is a quick reward for the Scottish Commonwealth Games athlete who threw a personal best of 72.79 metres to win the event at the Loughborough International last month and lead the UK rankings for 2011.

Edinburgh Leisure manager Frost, who competed for England in the 2006 Commonwealth Games then switched allegiance to Scotland on residential grounds in time for the 2010 Games in Delhi, recently parted company with Edinburgh coach Chris Black and is now being advised by Borders guru Alan Bertram, who also coaches Frost's girlfriend, Scottish champion Susan McKelvie.

Also in the team for Stockholm are two more of Scotland's team from Delhi, javelin thrower James Campbell and Glasgow 400 metres star Lee McConnell, who is named for the 4 x 400 metres relay.

But surprisingly there is no place in the relay squad for Pitreavie's Eilidh Child, who proved in Delhi what a tiger she is with a baton in her hand. And Child is omitted from the 400m hurdles as English rival Perri Shakes Drayton leads her on the season's ranking.
