Archery: Terry seals his place for Olympics

SCOTLAND’S Simon Terry was one of six archers confirmed in Team GB for the Olympics yesterday – and will make his fourth Games appearance in London this summer.

Stirling-born Terry topped the scoring at the final selection shoot at Lilleshall last month, and was selected along with Larry Godfrey, who will make a third Games appearance, and Alan Wills.

Wills, who joined the pair in Beijing four years ago, was widely tipped to be picked again and all but assured his place at the weekend when he, Godfrey and Terry took team gold in the World Cup event in Turkey.

Alison Williamson was selected for her sixth Olympic Games as the team was unveiled at Lord’s.

Williamson narrowly missed out on an automatic spot at Lilleshall, but has been handed the final discretionary place.

Williamson’s selection, confirmed by performance director Sara Symington and head coach Lloyd Brown, makes her only the third Briton after javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson and fencer Bill Hoskyns to win a place at six Olympics.
