Archerfield return for Ladies Open

THE Ladies Scottish Open is to be staged at Archerfield Links again next year, the event having been included on a 26-tournament schedule for 2011 announced yesterday by the Ladies European Tour.

The inaugural staging of the event at the East Lothian venue proved a big success and Aberdeen Asset Management has stayed on board as title sponsor, with EventScotland also remaining involved.

In a significant change, next year's event will finish on a Saturday, the 54-hole tournament running from 18-20 August - three weeks after the Ricoh Women's British Open is held at Carnoustie for the first time.

In the battle to secure spots on a circuit that is clearly on the up, Clare Queen stepped up her challenge at the Qualifying School yesterday with a second-round 70 at La Manga. That put the former British Girls' champion on 144 and in a tie for sixth behind the leader, Sweden's Caroline Hedwall.

Carly Booth signed for a second successive 75 and was joined on the 150 mark by Pamela Feggans after her 73. Heather MacRae, the only other Scot in the field, has her work cut out to secure a card on 155, having shot a 78 in her second round.
