Andy Murray can make a fist of it

If ANDY Murray doesn’t manage to become Wimbledon champion today or has to give up tennis soon, he could make it as a boxer.

According to Amir Khan, the former world champion who will fight to regain his light-welterweight championship next weekend, Murray has the punching power to make a fist of the Noble Art.

“He loves the boxing and has been to a few fights of mine,” said Khan. “He’s also done a training session with me in the boxing ring, and he does pack a punch.

“If tennis didn’t work out for him I’m sure boxing would also be out there.” Khan thinks the tennis net, and not the ring ropes, will see much more of Murray, however.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist said: “I’ve got confidence in him. He’s been playing so well, but it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be tough.

“There will be a lot of pressure on him, but having that home support means the world, and I think it’ll just give him that extra drive being one of the first British guys, after so long, to hit the final at Wimbledon.”
