Amateurs shine at The Glen

AMATEUR aces Jamie Morris and Allyn Dick pipped the pros for the main prizes in the Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance event at The Glen.

The pair were playing in the same group and came in late in the day to claim victories with some excellent scoring. Morris, who plays off plus one at Peebles, carded a scratch four- under-par 66 (32, 34) to lift the Tom Galloway Trophy with his net 67.

Spurred on by his playing partner, Dick, the former Lothians champion from Kingsknowe, signed for a 68 and took top spot in the scratch section. He finished three shots ahead of a four-way tie for second involving pros Stuart Callan (Bathgate), Stephen Lamb (Cardrona), Andrew Oldcorn (Kings Acre) and David Patrick (Elie).

Gullane’s Keir McNicoll was top trainee with 74 with Maurice McEwan (Gifford) securing the senior spoils, also with a 74 off seven.

The next event is at Craigielaw on 15 February.
