Ally McCoist not interested in Bursaspor bid for Steven Whittaker

RANGERS manager Ally McCoist has confirmed Bursaspor's interest in Steven Whittaker but insists he has no plans to sanction the sale of the utility man.

The Turkish club want to reunite Whittaker with former Rangers team-mate Kenny Miller but McCoist is keen to secure the player on a new contract instead.

He said: "I can confirm we had an offer from Bursaspor.

"I took a phone call from director Andrew Dickson to tell me about it. He didn't even tell me the figures involved because I told him that I wasn't interested in selling Steven.

"I have made it clear that Steven is one of the players I see as part of my long-term plans for the club.

"That is why we have opened talks with his representatives to extend his current contract."

Meanwhile, Carlos Cuellar has admitted he is excited by the prospect of a return to Rangers.

The Spanish defender quit the Scottish champions for Aston Villa three years ago after just one season at Ibrox, but has now been linked with a move back.

Cuellar said: "I have to find out what Villa want me to do but I'm very surprised to hear that Rangers want me back.

"It's exciting because Rangers, for me, has so many good memories.

"It's exciting if there is a possibility to go back because all of those good memories come back - the city, the club, the people, how much they loved me and how much I loved them.

"Then there is the Champions League and the chance to win trophies again. Who wouldn't be excited about something like that?"
