Alloa’s Allan lands second world title

BOWLS: Steven Allan, 26, from Alloa is the new WIBC World Indoor Singles champion after battling through a high-quality final against Guernsey’s Gary Pitschou to seal the title 6-6, 11-2. Dfter winning the WIBC Under 25 Junior title in 2010, he now sits alongside Arbroath’s Darren Burnett as the only players to have won both the junior and senior titles.

In yesterday’s singles title, Allan had to dig deep in the closing stages of the first set. He trailed 6-3, but a single followed by a double on the last left both players sharing the set at 6-6.

In the second, though, Allan scored doubles on each of the first two ends and that set him up for the title as he romped home with an end to spare.

Earlier, Allan and mixed pairs partner Marion Purcell from Wales lost the title decider to Welsh duo Kerry Packwood and Damien Doubler 9-9, 8-3.
