Airport rush gets Laura Davies off to flyer

Laura Davies opened up a two-shot lead on day one of the Hero Honda India Women's Open following a stunning bogey-free round at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Delhi.

She made four birdies on the opening nine and following up with three more on the way back to post a seven-under 65. That left Davies with a two-stroke advantage over Rebecca Flood and Praewnappa Phol-Uayporn, who scored rounds of 67.

It was an impressive display from Davies, who lies second on the Ladies European Tour Money List and whose golf clubs only arrived in India yesterday morning after three days missing in transit from China. "I had to rush to the airport this morning before my tee-off and again make a frantic appeal as the airport authorities did not want to release the bag which arrived from China without signing," Davies explained.

Scotland's Kylie Walker is one of four players tied for eighth, six shots behind the leader.
