Aberdeen GSFP 18 - 5 Gala: Gala coach humbled by ‘worst performance in two years’

ABERDEEN Grammar dealt Gala’s Premier A title hopes a major blow with a deserved win and the home team showed they might well be the team to watch in the second half of the season.

Gala coach George Graham was furious with his side. “There is no doubt the best side won,” he said, “but I was embarrassed for my team. It’s clear the players have been believing all they read about winning the title. This is a wake-up call for them. This is our worst performance in over two years.’’

The home hero was stand-off Rob Aloe who scored 13 of his side’s 18 points through a try, two penalties and a conversion, and played with authority and flair.

Grammar dictated the first half, but their only points came from an Aloe penalty, so when Gala took the lead through Craig Robertson’s try right on half-time, it looked like the home side had blown it. But Grammar regained control, scoring two tries, through Aloe and winger Calum Anderson, to give the large home crowd a day to remember.
