Aberdeen Grammar 31 - 33 Stirling County: Aberdeen left fuming at late call

This thrilling game of rugby ended in controversy, with referee Kevin White consulting an official some 50 metres away about a ruck situation, then awarding a try to Stirling County’s Stuart Edwards.

Home assistant coach Kevin Wyness was absolutely furious. “There is no way the ball was down, far less seen by an official who had the goal posts between him and the action. We were penalised out of the game up to that point. The try was the final blow, even the conversion missed the posts,’ he said.

Grammar had led 26-14 on the back of four excellent tries, while restricting the visitors to four penalties from centre Brian Archibald. He went on to add a fine try and kick three conversions for a personal tally of 23 points while Edwards led the fightback with his side’s opening touchdown on the hour.

“We took an hour to shake off our lethargy. It was not our best performance, but the guys showed character,’’ said Stirling coach Graham Young.
