9am Briefing: Derek Riordan linked with both Hearts and Hibs

VLADIMIR Romanov reportedly wants to sign Hibs diehard Derek Riordan.

Riordan, 25, is said to be ready to go to Hearts after being axed from the first-team Celtic squad.

Hearts have tried to sign the striker before without success but he now looks set to return to the Capital before the end of the transfer window on Monday.

However Riordan has also been linked to a 250,000 move back to Hibs.

It was reported today that Easter Road bosses want to try to secure a loan deal for their former youth star, but Celtic have demanded they front the cash.

Gordon Strachan paid 170,000 for the player, but his time at Parkhead has turned into more of a nightmare than a dream move.

Burley calls for patience after losing first three friendlies

GEORGE Burley is insisting he should be judged on Scotland's performances on the road to South Africa 2010 rather than his slow start in the top job.

Despite failing to win any of his three friendlies since taking charge, he reckons four points from World Cup qualifiers in Macedonia and Iceland is on the cards.

Burley has reportedly said there is "good spirit" in the Scotland camp and thinks the side can make it to the finals for the first time in 12 years.
