16/1 Johnston shot scatters punters in Cup

TRAINER Mark Johnston was always going to have a big chance of taking the Totepool.com Edinburgh Cup in Saturday’s race, but many thought his horse Maastricht would win. In the end, his unfacied Scatter Dice prevailed in a thrilling joust with Clayton, writes MARK ATKINSON.

Scatter Dice, ridden by Martin Lane, was always handy but turning for home it seemed the Kevin Ryan-trained Clayton held all the aces. He and Scatter Dice quickly pulled clear of the rest but it was Lane rather than Graham Lee who found more and got his mount home at 16/1.

More than 6500 people turned out at the East Lothian Track for a fine day’s racing, which also saw 16/1 shot Bajan Tryst take the Totescoop6 Scottish Sprint Handicap.
