Scottish Open organisers 'cautiously optimistic' about fans in July
The message was delivered in an “update on planning” for both the event in July at The Renaissance Club and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in September.
The ASI Scottish Open is scheduled for 8-11 July, by which time it is hoped that Covid-19 restrictions will have been eased to allow some fans to attend the Rolex Series event.

Hide Ad“We are cautiously optimistic about the return of some fans to our events later this year when it is safe to do so,” said the European Tour in an email.
“We will continue to follow the latest Scottish Government guidance in this respect.”
Last year’s event, won by Englishman Aaron Rai, was played behind closed doors at the same venue after being moved to October due to the circuit going into a three-month lockdown.
It had been hoped that fans would be allowed to attend as part of a test event in the Covid-19 world, but that plan was quickly scrapped at a time when cases started to rise again.
A small number of fans were in attendance at both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January.
However, it has already been decided that the French Open at Le Golf National in May will be played behind closed doors.
The R&A is still to announce its plans for fans at the 149th Open, which is set to take place the week after the Scottish Open at Royal St George’s in Kent.
