ScotRail has released an impressive video of the view from the driver’s seat of a train travelling along the Highland Mainline from Inverness to Pitlochry.

With the service departing from Inverness train station, the video lasts three and a half minutes and takes in all the glorious views that the Scottish Highlands has to offer as the train makes the journey southwards.

The rural track is at times running parallel with A9 road, while at other times, miles go by without even so much as a building appearing in the shot.

The weather unfortunately was far from perfect when the video was shot, with raindrops speckling the drivers window throughout.

However not even the grey skies can detract from the undeniably stunning route travellers heading from Inverness to Pitlochry get to enjoy.

ScotRail tweeted the video just after 8am on Wednesday, April 7, and within an hour it had been viewed almost 80,000 times.

This isn't the first time ScotRail has treated customers to an insight into the impressive views enjoyed by their drivers across the country.

At the end of last year, the company released a video lasting an hour and 20 minutes of the driver's eye video of the spectacular Fort William-Mallaig line.

More recently, it released footage taken from the drivers cabin from one of their trains as it travelled south over the Forth Bridge, featuring an unobstructed view of the structure, as well as views of the Firth of Forth to the east and the west as the sun was rising.
