Scotland's weather: Warning as severe gales to hit north west Scotland and Western Isles

Residents in the western Highlands are braced for severe gales, which are set to cause disruption this week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the area, which includes the Western Isles and is set to bring delays to road, air and ferry transport.

The warning is in place between 5pm and 11pm on Tuesday, March 9, with winds of up to 75mph expected.

The Met Office said of the warning: “Southerly gale or severe gales are expected for a few hours during Tuesday evening bringing gusts of 65 to 75 mph.

"Winds will decrease from the southwest towards late evening.”

The forecaster also adds that some bus services could be affected, with some journeys taking longer.

There could also be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.

A second warning for wind is also in place for England and Wales between 9pm on Wednesday and 3pm on Thursday.
