It’s another setback for the national side who have not played since the December 2019 series against the USA and UAE due to the global pandemic.

The League 2 competition is part of the qualification pathway for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India and Scotland, who currently lie third in the qualification table, were due to play Papua New Guinea and Oman in a series in Papua New Guinea.

Cricket Scotland will now work with the International Cricket Council to find a new window in the calendar when the fixtures can be safely played. This must be done before February 2023.

Gus MacKay, CEO of Cricket Scotland said: “We have been working closely with the ICC over the last few weeks to try and find a solution which would allow these matches to be played, but unfortunately it has not been possible. While disappointed, we understand their decision, particularly in light of current Covid-19 travel restrictions which affect many of the countries involved.

“We will continue to discuss with the ICC and other nations how best to reschedule these matches. In the meantime our priority remains the wellbeing of players, coaches, officials and fans.”

The next series in the competition is scheduled for July this year when Scotland are due to host Nepal and Namibia for six ODIs.

Meanwhile, Scotland A will take part in the inaugural European Cricket Championship later this year. It will take place over four weeks, between September 13 and October 8, in Spain and feature 15 teams.
