The Ibrox midfielder required surgery on a persistant calf problem that has ruled him out for the rest of the season, including Scotland’s Euro 2020 campaign this summer.

The 29-year-old has missed a large chunk of Rangers’ title-winning season – he was also sidelined by a knee injury in November and has not featured since trudging off against Dundee United in February – but he has vowed to return to fitness in time for the start of the Ibrox club’s Premiership title defence.

"Can’t wait to be back for the start of next season and getting back doing what I love.

"Thanks to everyone for the messages it’s much appreciated. All focus now is on 56! Let’s go."
