Relief for Scotland as Kieran Tierney's injury diagnosis should have ex-Celtic star back for Euros

Kieran Tierney will miss the next four to six weeks with a knee injury, his club Arsenal have confirmed.

The left-back was forced off in the recent loss to Liverpool with manager Mikel Arteta calling it a potentially “serious” issue.

It’s since been found the 23-year-old has suffered knee ligament damage, though it is not severe enough to require surgery and he should be back in training by mid-May the latest.

This should come as a huge relief to Scotland national team boss Steve Clarke as any diagnosis with a longer recovery time would surely have ruled out the former Celtic star from this summer’s European Championships.

Tierney plays a key role in Clarke’s 3-4-3/3-5-2 system. Though operating from left centre-back, the player has freedom to venture forward and work in tandem with captain and wing-back Andrew Robertson down the flank. He tallied up three assists in the recent 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands.
