FILM: THE DAMNED: DON’T YOU WISH THAT WE WERE DEAD

The often overlooked third member of the ‘holy trinity of punk’ The Damned (the others being The Clash and Sex Pistols, of course) were the first of the lot to get out a single and an album. Director Wes Orshoski dives into the filth and the fury of life in the late seventies punk scene and talks about The Damned’s influence with a number of iconic figures including Mick Jones, Duff McKagan and Lemmy.

EVENT: HARRY SPOTTER COMPETITION

If you’re looking for a family activity for this weekend, then stepping into the wizarding world may be an option. Edinburgh’s Museum of Childhood is part of a nationwide competition campaign where new images from the illustrated version of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone have been hidden within their exhibition. Once you spot the illustration, snap it and upload to Twitter for your chance to win a number of Potter-themed prizes.

Artist Donna Rutherford uses the tradition of soup-making to explore the place of elders in 21st century Scotland. Rutherford uses a series of conversational stories to touch on themes such as rituals, family and community.

A triple threat of rising new musical acts will be taking to the stage at King Tut’s this evening as part of The NEU Tour. Vant, The Big Moon and InHeaven range from straight up rock n’ roll to droney shoegaze - meaning if you’re looking for a new sound to get behind, there’s plenty on offer.
