THEATRE: MACK & MABEL

As part of its UK tour, Broadway musical Mack & Mabel is making its debut at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

Based on the real life behind-the-scenes romance which blossomed between Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand, Mack & Mabel is a nostalgic trip back in time when silent movies were still king in Hollywood.

Starring double Olivier award winner Michael Ball as Mack and introducing Rebecca LaChance as Mabel, watch as the chaos of the silver screen plays out on stage.

FILM: WATCH BAD MOVIES WITH GREAT COMEDIANS

Some films are so bad, they’re hilarious. But they’re even funnier with live commentary from seasoned stand-ups.

Tonight’s first ever screening will feature 1998 film The Avengers (not the Marvel kind). Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman are two secret agents who team up against an arch villain (Sean Connery), who, if the trailer is anything to go by, has a thing for elaborate tartan garb.

COMEDY: ANDY HAMILTON

Andy Hamilton is one of British comedy’s most recognisable faces, if not the most recognisable of names. He’s regular guest on panel shows such as Have I Got News For You and QI, as well as being part of the writing duo that co-created shows like 2015 election satire Ballot Monkeys and hit sitcom Outnumbered, as well as writing the British feature film What We Did On Our Holiday.

EXHIBITION: SUBMERGE

An installation by Kathy Hinde, in collaboration with software programmer Matthew Olden, will be shown tonight at The Lighthouse as part of the Sonica Festival.

The exhibition will allow people to interact with an underwater sound map of Glasgow.

The sounds, which were captured over the summer, allow you to listen to the water bodies of Glasgow and find out more about the city’s underwater ecology.

DINING: BAROLO AND WHITE TRUFFLE DINNER

The “diamond” of the culinary world will be the main focus of Divino Enoteca’s special dining event. Six courses will be paired with six wines – all with expert advice from Matteo Sardagna Einaudi, owner of the acclaimed Poderi Luigi Einaudi winery.

All meals will be served with elusive white truffle. Only available for only a few months each year, it’s highly prized and is principally found in Piedmont in northern Italy. It can cost anywhere between £6,000 to £8,000 per pound. £120, in that context, is a bargain.

ART: THE IRISH CONNECTION

The Scottish Gallery is hosting highlights from the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Portfolio Critical Selection 2015-2016, which is a series of exhibitions promoting Irish craft and design.

See work from the likes of Cara Murphy, a silversmith who was commissioned to design a desk set for 10 Downing Street, and Úna Burke, whose sculptural leather accessories have been bought and commissioned by a succession of stars including Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Heidi Klum.
