EXHIBITION: THE TURNER PRIZE

While Assemble may have won the 2015 Turner Prize for Contemporary Art on Monday, you’ve still got the chance to see the award-winning work of the twelve artists involved at the Tramway in Glasgow.

Aseemble is a London-based collective whose nomination came as a result of their revamping of ten condemned terraced houses in Liverpool into affordable homes. The explorations of “consensus reality” by close runner-up Bonnie Camplin is worth a look-in, as it’s inspired by fields as diverse as physics, philosophy, witchcraft and war.

FOOD AND DRINK: THE WHISKY ENLIGHTENMENT EXPERIENCE

Fans of Scotland’s national drink will find plenty to keep them interested at the end of the Virgin Money Street of Light. The tour and tasting event run by the Scotch Whisky Experience gives customers a hot toddy on arrival, before sampling a specially-selected single malt whisky with an accompanying chocolate.

In addition, a twenty-minute “whisky expert session” is provided, all for the somewhat high price of £15 per adult per hour. Each event runs from 7.15pm Monday-Saturday, with the Sunday session beginning an hour earlier.

COMEDY: STEWART FRANCIS “PUN GENT”

Stewart Francis, the Canadian master of the dry one-liner, brings his stand-up show to Paisley at 7.30pm this evening. Stewart previously appeared in Scotland as part of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow when he supported the Brit’s Edinburgh gigs. In addition, Francis won the award for the funniest joke of the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe with a joke involving Posh and Becks.

CONCERT: ANDRE RIEU 2015

The Dutch classical music maestro returns to the UK with the first of two consecutive nights in the Granite City. In attendance will also be the 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra and Rieu’s world-famous 1667 Stradivarius violin.

THEATRE: PETER PAN

Pantomime veteran Elaine C Smith heads a River City-studded cast in the Aberdeen Performing Arts’ rendition of Peter Pan. Running until January 3, the family-oriented event is on twice daily 1.45pm and 7pm daily, with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

3D effects have been added to this year’s performance, though they may not be suitable for children aged five and under.
