EXHIBITION: PENGUIN FESTIVAL

Edinburgh Zoo will be hosting a penguin festival tonight, through an exhibition by Ottmar Hörl. The installation by the German artist features a colony of 120 black and white penguins on the lawn in front of the historic mansion house. The exhibition will mark the first time Hörl has been displayed in Scotland or the UK.

GIG: THE CHARLATANS

Still going strong after all kinds of upheaval, The Charlatans will take to the stage of the Usher Hall in Edinburgh tonight. After the loss of their drummer Jon Brookes to brain cancer in 2013, the band faced some difficult decisions. The trio opted to bring in different musicians to take Brookes’ stool, each of whom 0 including New Order’s Stephen Morris – played various tracks on their recent album Modern Nature.

THEATRE: ALICE IN WONDERLAND

If you’re looking for more subtle pantomime this evening, the East Kilbride Rep Theatre Club has turned Lewis Carroll’s story of Alice in Wonderland into a brand new show. In honour of its 150th anniversary, Alice, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum will be taking to the stage with over 30 local children.

COMEDY: THE STAND CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

The Stand will be getting into the Christmas spirit tonight as it welcomes audiences to don their most vulgar Christmas jumpers and watch a few comedy crackers. Zoe Lyons, Mark Nelson, Keir McAllister, Ashley Storrie and host Joe Heenan will be attempting to make you laugh your Christmas socks off.

MUSIC: MUMFORD AND SONS

If you’re in the mood for mass singalongs and watching grown men hold each other while sloshing their pints about in the air, head along to SSE Hydro to catch Mumford and Sons. Since ditching their banjos and double basses for actual guitars, the band’s sound has developed a much-needed new dimension. The band will be performing their internationally bestselling album, Wilder Mind, as well as tracks from their debut album, Sigh No More, to their legion of fans. Support comes from one to watch for 2016, Jack Garratt. Tickets sold out long ago but their website offers links to ticket exchanges.
