Weather watch for the week

Tonight there will be occasional light rain and drizzle moving south down North Sea counties into East Anglia but tending to fizzle out towards dawn.

Elsewhere, it will be a mainly dry night with clear spells, although cloud will build into north-west Scotland and Northern Ireland during the early hours, accompanied by light rain and drizzle later.

Tomorrow: A largely fine day across south-eastern parts of England but with a steady increase in cloud over the course of the day. Elsewhere, light rain and drizzle over Northern Ireland and western Scotland will spread south and east, affecting south-west England and Wales by the end of the day.

UK Outlook (Thursday and Friday): Thursday will see any lingering rain in the south-east clear away during the morning to leave a fairly breezy day with sunny spells and showers.

The showers will be heaviest and most frequent in the north-west of the UK where a few thundery downpours are possible. Winds will also be fresh or strong in north-west Scotland.

On Friday, there will be sunny spells and further showers for the northern and western places but these will become less frequent as the day continues.
