Stuart McCall ends holiday to talk to Sheffield United

MOTHERWELL manager Stuart McCall has cut short a holiday in Spain to hold talks with Sheffield United about the vacant job at Bramall Lane.

The Yorkshire club were given permission by Motherwell on Tuesday to speak to their manager and McCall is expected to begin discussions with United officials today.

Interrupting his end-of-season break gives an indication of how keen the 48-year-old is to explore the option of returning to the League One club.

He spent the final three years of his playing career at the Blades and performed a player-coach role between 2002 and 2005.

His achievements at Motherwell earned him the Clydesdale Bank SPL Manager of the Year award for the season just ended, in which he guided Motherwell to second place in the table and a place in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

However, he has lost key components from his team in goalkeeper Darren Randolph, who is joining Birmingham City, and midfielder Nicky Law.

United have been looking for a manager since Danny Wilson left last month and are hopeful that talks with McCall could lead to an appointment.
