Stenhousemuir appoint Scott Booth as manager

Stenhousemuir have appointed former Aberdeen and Scotland striker Scott Booth as their new manager, but he will not take charge until he has served his notice in his current role as Scotland Under-17 coach.

Booth, who also played for Borussia Dortmund in Germany as well as Utrecht, Vitesse and FC Twente in the Netherlands, was seen making copious notes as Stenhousemuir crashed out of the Scottish Cup 11 days ago at Albion Rovers and he followed that up by impressing the club’s committee at an interview last week. The 42-year-old, who is untried at a senior level, beat off over 30 candidates for the position and the 22-times capped player who is presently overseas with a young Scottish side told the club’s website: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the manager of Stenhousemuir. There is an excellent mix of youth and experience.”

“I look forward to getting them on to the training pitch and working with them. I want them to be the best they can be as individual athletes, whilst developing a winning mentality as a team.”

Booth added: “Everyone in Scottish football knows that Stenhousemuir is a modern, progressive club with big ideas on moving the game forward in Scotland. Be it their award- winning community programme, or their new youth academy concept, Stenhousemuir is a club that often leads the way in developing the game. I am looking forward to being part of the club and doing my bit to take the club forward.”

Booth will take up his new role from the beginning of next month with interim coach Brown Ferguson continuing to be in charge for games against Rangers, Airdrie and Forfar Athletic. The SFA will now need to find a new coach for their under-17 side’s Elite Round of Qualification group Matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina, Romania and Belgium at the end of next month.
