Start-up aims to take pain out of mountain bike suspension

An Edinburgh start-up is set to launch a product to help tune the suspension settings on mountain bikes.

SussMyBike has already achieved its £20,000 fundraising goal on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform and has now set its sights on bringing in a total of £60,000 to further develop its technology.

Inventor and director Alan Mason said: “we are hoping backers will continue to pledge and support us to make SussMyBike an even bigger success.

“The better funded we are, the faster we can develop the product and the better a product we can produce. We are hoping we can reach our stretch goal of £60,000 and be able to build in the additional functionality of providing raw data to the user by way of an ‘expert’ mode.”

SussMyBike is a small electronic device that fits on a mountain bike and analyses its suspension performance. It then uses a smartphone app to tell the rider which settings to use.

Mason said: “We have designed SussMyBike to addresses a pain point for many riders who want to set up their bikes effectively. Tuning the suspension on your mountain bike for best results can take hours of trial and error and lots of head scratching.

“We have had input from great engineers with experience in materials and electronics design and positive feedback from riders ranging from novices to professional Enduro World Cup series riders who will put SussMyBike through its paces out on the trails. We still have some final tweaks to do so we hope a successful crowdfund will get us over the finishing line by providing the funds to bring this exciting new product to market.”

The device has been developed with support from the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland at Glentress near Peebles, along with teams from Edinburgh and Napier universities.
