Salvaged aircraft set to become Glasgow restaurant

AFTER coming in to land for the final time, a Boeing 737 aeroplane fuselage is to be transformed into a dining area at an entertainment centre in Glasgow

The go-karting and leisure centre named The Experience, based in Hillington, is located at a former Rolls Royce Aero factory and this social enterprise is looking to reconnect with that history with 40 feet of the main body of this classic aircraft.

This particular model had over 24 years’ worth of service for Air France and Siberian Airways and had been salvaged by a specialist team based at Cotswold Airport near Gloucestershire.

The aircraft body is set to be escorted up the motorway in the middle of next week.

The Experience describes itself as Scotland’s first leisure centre “with a conscience”, boasting a go-karting track and laser experience as well as a learning centre, training kitchens, conference rooms, meeting spaces and a restaurant.

The site’s general manager Mike Edwin told the Glasgow Evening Times: “This is an exciting way of recycling a disused jet and creating a fun and imaginative space for our visitors.

“We are aiming to have kids parties, fine dining, and meeting and training facilities inside the plane itself. And as a landmark, people interested in just getting up close to a plane of this size are more than welcome to come take a look.

“I am sure that when people drive past and see the scale of the jet it will get people intrigued into the past life of The Experience, as well finding out what we offer now.”
