Ibrox manager Mark Warburton has said Foderingham could one day play for his country, and McCrorie – who has been preparing for Scotland’s do-or-die European U-19 qualifer against Ireland in Limerick today – agrees after working closely with the former Swindon ’keeper.

He said: “I train with Wes and he’s a very good, technical keeper.

“Training with him and watching what he does helps me a lot. I agree with the manager that he could play for England.

“This has been a big move for him, away from his family, and he’s done really well. We’ve only had glimpses of how good he can be.

“In the past few years, in the teams I’ve been involved with, we’ve made an effort to try and build from the back.

“The gaffer’s philosophy suits me a lot, because he wants us to get the ball down and play. I feel more like an outfield player because I’m always involved.”

McCrorie, 17, has been heartened by the emergence of several youngsters in Warburton’s squad, including Barrie McKay, fellow Scotland U-19 player Ryan Hardie and Fraser Aird.

McCrorie also admits he is enjoying working with Warburton.

He said: “Everyone’s enjoying themselves. I think the public can see that we’re starting to get back to where we were.

“The younger boys have been more involved. My brother Ross and Liam Burt – who are both in this Scotland squad – have been in pretty regularly and it makes us feel like there’s a chance for us now if we keep our heads down, work hard and the gaffer sees us progressing.”
